Welcome to Teuillac [click to enlarge]Vine House is within walking distance of the charming village of Teuillac. Take a short stroll through the vineyards each morning to buy fresh croissants from the village boulangerie. There is also a traditional auberge in the village which serves delicious 3-course meals each lunchtime.
Vine House is surrounded by beautifully manicured vineyards - and the area’s primary industry is "viticulture" (wine making). Bourg [click to enlarge]Bourg-sur-Gironde is five minutes away. Built on a rocky outcrop, this fortified village overlooks the picturesque Gironde estuary. As you explore the village, at every turn you’ll find impressive buildings with beautiful architectural features.
Bourg-sur-Gironde has a lively market every Sunday morning. It also has a number of excellent restaurants and cafés. Throughout the year, there are fêtes and events to celebrate everything imaginable, such as show-jumping, jazz, salt, flowers, onions, garlic, cheese and asparagus!Bourg market [click to enlarge]
Blaye [click to enlarge]The town of Blaye is ten minutes away. As you drive alongside the Gironde river, look out for the Roman villa and troglodyte settlement at Plassac. Once at Blaye, the port has a car ferry which crosses the estuary to the forest and beaches of Les Landes.
The centre of Blaye is dominated by a magnificent citadel and the hillside fortress stands guard over the town and the river. Blaye has a large market each Wednesday and Saturday where you can sample and buy many of the local delicacies.Blaye citadel [click to enlarge]
A local vide-grenier [click to enlarge]The local towns and villages often host "brocantes" (antique fairs) and "vide-greniers" (car boot sales). It’s great fun rummaging around the stalls for authentic French bargains - or you could just enjoy a coffee and watch everyone else hunting for something special!

A little history...
The town of Bourg was founded by Pontius Léontinus who built Villa Paulini on the site. The town formed part of the "Confédération des filleules de Bordeaux" and over time developed military significance. The town was acrimoniously fought over during both the Anglo-French war and the Wars of Religion. In 1650, Louis XIV, Anne d'Autriche and Mazarin stayed at Bourg during the revolts known as "La Fronde". The town's château was destroyed after La Fronde, but rebuilt during the 18th century.

Gallo-Roman remains; ruins of the Eglise-de-La-Libarde (Roman crypt); ruins of fortifications (13th to 15th century); 15th-century buildings; Château-de-la-Citadelle & Château-du-Bousquet (both 17th century); lavoir & church (both 19th century).

Vines and vineyards, including AOC "Côtes-de-Bourg" & "Bourgeais"; sparkling wines; liqueurs; cork manufacturers; mushrooms.

"Musée Hippomobile" (horse-drawn vehicles); "Musée Maurice Poignant" (local history); "Foire-Troque-sel" (1-8 September); local fête (8 September); market every Sunday.
